Project Information

Project Description:

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes an expedited bridge replacement of the S-164 (Beaver Dam Road) bridge over Thicketty Creek in Cherokee County, SC.

Proposed Improvements:

The proposed project will replace the existing single span bridge with a three span bridge on existing alignment. The bridge will accommodate two 12-foot travel lanes with 3-foot shoulders. An off-site 5 mile detour utilizing S Green River Road (S-39) and Old Georgia Highway (US 29) will be in place during construction.

Purpose and Need:

The purpose of the proposed project is to replace the existing S-164 bridge over Thicketty Creek to eliminate structural deficiencies and to provide a new bridge and roadway approaches that meet current design standards. The bridge, which was built in 1974, was determined to no longer meet SCDOT's safety and design requirements for its transportation system.
