Project Information

Project Description:

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to replace the US 15 Southbound bridge over the Pocotaligo River in Sumter County.

Proposed Improvements:

The proposed improvements include replacing the existing southbound bridge over Pocotaligo River and roadway to meet current design and safety standards.

Purpose and Need:

The purpose of the project is to correct the structural deficiencies associated with the existing US 15 Southbound bridge over the Pocotaligo River to meet current design standards. In an effort to expedite the time frame of the project and reduce construction impacts at this site, this will require closing the bridge and detouring traffic onto the Northbound bridge.

**Structurally Deficient is a status used to describe a bridge that has one or more structural defects that require attention. This status does not mean the bridge is unsafe for vehicle traffic.**
