Bridge Description
The 5 span, 133'-long T beam bridge has paneled concrete parapets, 3 lines of beams, and is supported on reinforced concrete abutments and piers that form the sidewalls of the spillway. One of the abutments appears to have been repaired/reconstructed.The inspection report notes spalls with loss of fabric to the beams and railings.
Significance
The 1925 T beam bridge was selected in the 1991 bridge survey as meeting the National Register criteria because of its association with the dam/spillway. Bridges over spillways are not uncommon, and that in itself is not technologically significant. No plans or documentation on the builder/designer are available at SCDOT.
