Bridge Description

The 1 span, 141'-long pin-connected Pratt thru truss has eye bar tensions members and built-up compression members of standard sections, A-frame portals, 2 rail high metal angle railings inside the truss lines, wood plank deck, and concrete abutments.

Significance

The 1909 pin-connected thru truss bridge was fabricated by Austin Bros. of Atlanta, according to a bridge plaque that was present during the 1981 truss inventory. The bridge still ranks as one of the oldest surviving examples of its type in the state, and one of the very few pin-connected trusses still on-system.The bridge was found eligible as a result of the 1981 survey. There do not appear to have been any significant alterations to the bridge since 1981, although the condition of the bridge deserves some attention - all members are listed as heavily/moderately rusted, the bearings are full of rust and debris, and some pin nuts are reported as backing off the threads.
