Project Information
Project Description:
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to improve the intersection of SC 324 @ S-101 (Mobley Store Rd.) in York County.
This intersection was selected for improvement through the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). This program uses a data- driven strategic approach to identify locations throughout the state with high crash rates or patterns and implements safety enhancements through infrastructure-related improvements. The HSIP project selection requires an engineering study that includes an analysis of the crash data, an assessment of the field conditions, and an evaluation of the effectiveness of all potential countermeasure to ensure maximum safety benefits are obtained for the amount of funds invested.
Proposed Improvements:
The proposed improvements include creating a roundabout at the current intersection.
Purpose and Need:
The purpose of this project is to improve safety at the intersection of SC 324 @ S-101 through engineering solutions identified to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes.
The need for the project was identified through traffic data collection and historic crash reporting. A recent study of intersections converted to roundabouts from the SCDOT Traffic Safety Office has shown a reduction in injury crashes by 79% and total crashes by 66%.
