Project Information
Project Description:
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to replace the structurally deficient US 21 bridge over Congaree Creek in Lexington County. The project study area is located on US 21 over Congaree Creek, between the ramps onto I-26 Westbound the intersection of US 21 and Old Dunbar Road.
Proposed Improvements:
The proposed project will replace the bridge at the current location. Construction will take place in stages to minimize impacts to vehicle traffic on this busy corridor. As construction progresses, SCDOT will issue press releases to notify the public about upcoming traffic impacts.
Purpose and Need:
The bridge does not meet current design criteria or safety standards. This bridge replacement project is part of SCDOT’s overall efforts to replace bridges that are structurally deficient and/or functionally obsolete across South Carolina.
