The project includes replacing the existing bridge, realigning the roadway approaches as necessary and improving the roadway approaches to meet current design criteria.

The purpose of is to eliminate structural deficiencies and to provide a new bridge and roadway approaches that meet current standards. SCDOT expects that the proposed bridge will be constructed on or near existing alignment using a full roadway closure and detour route.
