  • Description

    The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to replace the S-16 (Sardis Road) bridge over Tyger River in Union County, South Carolina. The existing bridge does not currently meet acceptable standards. The bridge was closed to traffic in July 2022.

  • Proposed Improvements

    The project will replace the existing bridge and be constructed on the existing alignment while utilizing the existing temporary closure and detour of the roadway.

  • Purpose and Need

    The purpose of the project is to eliminate structural deficiencies and to provide a new bridge and roadway approaches that meet current standards. Sardis Road is currently closed to traffic.

  • Adaptive Reuse

    The central metal truss portion of the S-16 (Sardis Road) Bridge over Tyger River in Union County, SC will be available for adaptive reuse. The truss bridge is being offered to potential recipients, who must agree to preserve the bridge and its historic features, and assume all legal and financial responsibilities for the bridge. Funding equal to the amount allocated for demolition of the bridge is available to assist in adaptive reuse efforts.
