The Department proposes safety improvements to North Kings Hwy (US 17 Business) from 27th Ave N to Cove Drive in Mytle Beach, South Carolina.

The projects proposed safety improvements include the following:

• High Visibility Crosswalks
• ADA Ramps
• Countdown Signal Heads
• Pedestrian Improvements at Signals
• Updated Signage
• Access Management Practices to reduce angle and pedestrian collisions.

This corridor was selected for improvement through SCDOT's Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Action Plan (PBSAP) as a part of the Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).

All HSIP projects require an engineering study that includes an analysis of the crash data, an assessment of field conditions, vehicular turning movement counts, and an evaluation of the effectiveness of all potential countermeasures to ensure the maximum safety benefit is obtained for the amount of funds invested.
