The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposed bridge repair, rehabilitation, and preservation services for SC 171 (Folly Road Boulevard) over Wappoo Creek in Charleston County. The Wappoo Creek bridge connects the cities of Charleston and James Island via SC 171.

Through the Statewide Bridge Preventative Maintenance Program, the bridge will undergo structural repairs in an effort to remove current load restrictions and preserve or extend its service life. The rehabilitation work proposed include bridge deck replacement, mechanical and electrical improvements to the movable bridge system, and cleaning and painting work.

The purpose of this project is to increase safety and extend the service life of the SC 171 Bridge over Wappoo Creek.
