Project Description:

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) proposes to improve the intersection of US 17 Alt. at S-13 (Central Ave.) in Dorchester County.

Proposed Improvements:

The proposed improvements include creating a roundabout at the current intersection.

Purpose and Need:

The purpose of this project is to improve safety at the intersection of US 17 Alt. @ S-13 through engineering solutions identified to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes.

The need for the project was identified through traffic data collection and historic crash reporting. A recent study of intersections converted to roundabouts from the SCDOT Traffic Safety Office has shown a reduction in injury crashes by 79% and total crashes by 66%.
